Darcy Solutions is seeking a forward-thinking Systems/Applications Engineer to join our growing team in Minneapolis, MN. With funding from the NSF, DOE, USDA, State of Minnesota, and climate investors, Darcy is developing and currently installing new groundwater-based, geothermal approaches to sustainable heating and cooling for commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential buildings. We’re working closely with our industry partners to pioneer new and exciting, integrated ground loop-HVAC designs to help our customers meet increasingly aggressive carbon emissions reduction goals and energy efficiency requirements while lowering costs. Our approach integrates elements of water well and geothermal technology, resulting in a novel way to put groundwater to work.

Responsibilities
- Technical Expertise: Serve as a technical resource across departments, providing expertise in geothermal system design, operation, and optimization. This includes contributing to product development, sales support, and supporting the development of customized system designs and enhancements.
- Design & Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system schematics, installation guides, and operational manuals. Create detailed CAD drawings to support project design and execution.
- Sales Support: Collaborate with the sales team by providing technical guidance on system design, develop submittals, and respond to technical and installation challenges. Conduct system performance analyses and work with Sales and Marketing to generate compelling presentations that showcase the value of Darcy Solutions’ technology.
- Innovation Integration: Work closely with the R&D team to integrate new technologies and design improvements into our standard offerings, ensuring seamless implementation across all departments.
- Perform calculations to determine the impact of varying flows and temperatures on system performance.
- Experience in design and manufacturing practices.
- Field Support: Provide technical assistance to construction and service teams during system installation, commissioning, and maintenance. Troubleshoot system issues and develop effective solutions.
- Field Work: Provide on-site assistance to evaluate conditions, optimize installation, or troubleshoot challenges encountered in the field.
- Develop training procedures for end users and provide the training on-site.
- Performance Analysis: Analyze system performance data to identify areas for optimization and improvement. Contribute to the development of strategies to enhance system efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in geothermal technology. Contribute to the ongoing development of Darcy Solutions’ engineering practices and design standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, is required. Professional Engineer (PE) License (preferred).
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and Bluebeam.
- At least 3 years of experience in HVAC design, mechanical/electrical systems engineering, or a related field. Experience with geothermal systems is a strong plus.
- Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems. Building Automation or Industrial Controls for mechanical systems is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar). Experience with building automation systems, control programming, and energy modeling tools.
- Capable of handling multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. A proactive and solution-oriented approach to challenges.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and coordinate with different departments.
- U.S. Citizenship or USCIS Permanent Resident Card.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain security clearance for federal, state, municipal and educational sites.
Additional Skills
- Experience with building automation systems, controls programming, and energy modeling tools.
- Experience with electrical system design and analysis is highly desirable.
- Experience in Construction, Renewable Energy, HVAC Equipment, or similar industries.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
- Comfortable interfacing with people with different backgrounds and approaches (Operations, Engineering, Geology, Customers, etc.).
- Diligent and capable of driving tasks to completion despite potential challenges.
Physical Requirements:
- Driving/Air Travel: Ability to travel by air or motor vehicle to and from local and remote project locations.
- Walking: Ability to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces and in dust-generating environments; extensive walking frequently required throughout a regular or extended workday.
- Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift and carry loads in excess of 25 lbs.
- Able to be on a job site for extended periods of time (8–10 hours).
- Working Conditions: Working near electrical and mechanical building equipment and systems.
- Stand/Sit: Both can range from 0–100% each day.
- Reaching: Frequent reaching overhead and horizontally.
- Vision: Corrected vision to 20/20 required or adequate to perform all essential functions.

Who We Are
Darcy Solutions is a cleantech startup that integrates geology, engineering design, construction, and O&M Services to deliver groundwater enabled geothermal solutions for decarbonization of the built environment. Our foundational technology was initially conceived by our co-founder while he was a research scientist at the University of Minnesota. Since spinning out from the University in 2018, we have focused on developing our technology for commercial application and rapidly driving the growth of our company. We installed our first pilot system in 2019 and following the launch of our first commercial system in 2020, we are enjoying strong interest in our geothermal-HVAC system solutions.
