Darcy Solutions is seeking highly motivated and entrepreneurial Field Technician/Construction Supervisor to join our growing startup and help shape our future. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to develop an exciting new technology and simultaneously apply it across our expanding customer installations. Candidates must share our passion for making a meaningful contribution in reducing our collective carbon emissions footprint and have an affinity for collaborative problem-solving within our team and with our industry partners and customers. This role will participate in project planning, quality control testing, construction inspections and oversight, permit compliance, technology development, and interactions with customers and subcontractors.
With funding from the NSF, DOE, USDA, State of Minnesota, and climate investors, Darcy is pioneering a new groundwater-based, geothermal approach to sustainable heating and cooling for commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential buildings. We’re working closely with our industry partners to develop new and exciting, integrated ground loop-HVAC designs to help our customers meet increasingly aggressive carbon emissions goals and energy efficiency requirements while lowering costs. Our approach incorporates elements of water well and geothermal technology, resulting in novel solutions that put groundwater to work.

Responsibilities
- Construction Oversight: Oversee project-specific requirements for well construction, excavation, and underground piping installation. Ensure and document subcontractor compliance with project requirements and specifications for system construction and installation. Ensure subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements, including subcontractor safety audits.
- External Coordination: Coordinate with external project team members regarding schedules and project-specific requirements/specifications.
- Internal Coordination: Coordinate with internal project team members (i.e., geology, sales, and engineering team members) regarding schedules and project-specific requirements/specifications.
- Lead Equipment Management and Installations: Assist with equipment procurement, quality control testing, system installation/preparation, and inventory management to ensure success.
- Permit Compliance: Perform quarterly groundwater sampling and other system testing to remain in compliance with project-specific permit requirements.
- Technical Documentation: Documenting field service protocols and training manuals for the end user and for other Darcy Solutions staff.
- Team Collaboration: Provides consultation and advice to others, decision making and problem solving on matters of engineering operations, project coordination, subcontractor scheduling, needs and outcomes in a professional, clear and collaborative manner.
- Internal and External Meetings: Attend meetings as required to engage in education and participate in communicating challenges and solutions implemented in the field as well as coordination challenges for projects to be installed.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Complete field work in all weather conditions.
- Travel to job sites and industry gatherings.
Preferred Ǫualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, engineering, or another technical field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years of practical field-based experience in geotechnical, engineering, construction, or related technical fields.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- Creative problem-solving skills, and superb time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with engineered systems.
- Commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to write and speak clearly.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- U.S. Citizenship or USCIS Permanent Resident Card.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain security clearance for federal, state, municipal, and educational sites.

OSHA 30 – Candidates that do not have safety certification will go through OSHA training, upon entering employment with Darcy Solutions, prior to going to project sites.
Physical Requirements
- Driving/Air Travel: Ability to travel by air or motor vehicle to and from local and remote project locations.
- Walking: Ability to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces and in dust-generating environments; extensive walking frequently required throughout a regular or extended workday.
- Lifting/carrying: Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs.
- Able to be on a job site for extended periods of time (8–12 hours).
- Working conditions: Working near electrical and mechanical building equipment and systems.
- Stand/Sit: Both can range from 0–100% each day.
- Reaching: Frequent reaching overhead and horizontally.
- Vision: Corrected vision to 20/20 required or adequate to perform all essential functions.

Who We Are
Darcy Solutions is an engineering design and cleantech startup. Our foundational technology was initially conceived by our co-founder and developed while he was a research scientist at the University of Minnesota following the completion of his PhD there. Since spinning out from the University in 2018, we have focused on refining our technology for commercial application and rapidly driving the growth of our company. We installed our first pilot system in 2019, and following the launch of our first commercial system in 2020, we are enjoying strong interest in our geothermal-HVAC system solutions. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending in-office collaboration at our New Brighton, MN, office with the flexibility of remote work. It also includes field assignments at various project sites.
