The Applications Engineer serves as a key technical resource across the organization, bridging product development, field operations, and sales support while working closely with the R&D team to integrate new technologies into our standard offerings.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in HVAC design, mechanical/electrical systems engineering, or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate across functions and explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Capable of managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proactive and solution-oriented.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and coordinate across departments.
- U.S. Citizenship or USCIS Permanent Resident Card.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance for federal, state, municipal, and educational sites.
Preferred - Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Experience with geothermal systems, HVAC equipment, or other energy conversion technologies.
- Experience with building automation systems, controls programming, and energy modeling tools (e.g., EnergyPlus).
- Knowledge of electrical system design and analysis.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and Bluebeam.
- Experience in construction, renewable energy, or similar industries.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & System Design
- Serve as a technical resource across departments, providing expertise in HVAC system design, operation, and optimization.
- Contribute to product development and support the development of customized system designs and enhancements.
- Stay current on industry trends and advancements in geothermal technology; contribute to the ongoing development of Darcy's engineering practices and design standards.
Design & Documentation
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system schematics, installation guides, and operational manuals.
- Create detailed CAD drawings to support project design and execution.
- Apply sound design and manufacturing practices across all deliverables.
Sales Support
- Collaborate with the sales team by providing technical guidance on system design, developing submittals, and responding to technical and installation challenges.
- Conduct system performance analyses and work with Sales and Marketing to generate compelling presentations that showcase the value of Darcy Solutions' technology.
Innovation Integration
- Work closely with the R&D team to integrate new technologies and design improvements into standard offerings, ensuring seamless implementation across all departments.
Field Support
- Provide technical assistance to construction and service teams during system installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Provide on-site support to evaluate conditions, optimize installation, and troubleshoot field challenges.
- Develop training procedures for end users and deliver on-site training.
Field Support
- Analyze system performance data to identify areas for optimization and improvement.
- Contribute to the development of strategies to enhance system efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel by air or motor vehicle to local and remote project sites.
- Ability to walk construction sites with uneven surfaces and dust-generating environments; extended walking frequently required.
- Ability to lift and carry loads in excess of 25 lbs.
- Ability to be on a job site for extended periods (8–10 hours).
- Ability to work near electrical and mechanical building equipment and systems.
- Standing/sitting may range from 0–100% each day depending on activities.
- Frequent reaching overhead and horizontally.
Working Conditions

The role will report to the Director of Marketing and Strategy and collaborate with functional leaders across the company.
Responsibilities
- Website Management and Content Production
- Oversee management of the company website and associated content publishing for the company.
- Partner closely with Marketing, Sales, R&D, and Operations teams to create web focused digital assets compelling to our target markets and partners.
- Measure efficacy of content creation and tactical execution across customer touchpoints including digital (website traffic, SEO, social media KPIs) and in-person representation (lead attribution from events, etc.) to improve lead generation and conversion.
- Work with leaders in the Sales, R&D, and Operational functions of the company to build a strategy to evolve and improve the website over time.
- Digital Campaign Management
- Evaluate the potential for other digital campaign strategy across Search Engines, AI Tools, and Social Media for targeted audiences.
- Oversee partners including digital agencies and consultants as needed to build, execute, and measure performance of digital and in person related marketing campaigns.
- Recommend and test campaign concepts based on agreed upon goals of the company and develop reporting infrastructure to efficiently share performance.
- Implement campaigns and measure performance against objectives, including analyzing return on objective versus investment.
- External Representative Education Program
- Lead the evaluation, selection and development of a comprehensive digital sales partner education program which efficiently educates our sales partners to a minimal level of proficiency on Darcy technology, processes, and expectations of go to market.
- Oversee content production and publication, as well as administration of partner education reporting.
- Improve and expand the program via content updates based on new products and service offerings and specifications within the company.
Expected Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of proven experience leading digital marketing initiatives within a fast-paced business environment.
- Excellent technical and verbal communication skills with the capability to manage complex digital platforms and websites.
- Expert-level understanding of digital marketing channels and tactics, including SEO, SEM, and social media performance tracking (LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google suite of tools).
- Eagerness to learn and apply generative artificial intelligence technologies and workflows into the company tech stack to improve efficiency is a requirement.
- Strong understanding of CRM software, sales pipeline management, and educational/LMS platform administration.
- Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems, geothermal energy, and sustainability in business are valued but not required.

Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated R&D Engineer to support Darcy’s technology roadmap under the direction of our Chief Scientific Officer and cross-functional technical leadership. You’ll help accelerate the evolution of Darcy’s geothermal systems by developing new mechanical designs, tools and equipment, test methods, numerical models, and proof-of-concept field demonstrations.
This role blends structured research, modeling, prototyping, technical evaluation, and product development with collaboration among engineering, geology, and field operations teams — advancing innovation while translating ideas into scalable, real-world solutions.
Ideal Candidate & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering; Materials Science; Energy Systems; Hydrogeology or Geothermal Geophysics; or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on R&D experience and track record of innovation in mechanical system design, engineering, physics, data analysis, prototype development, or related fields.
- Experience designing and testing mechanical components, tools, and/or products with a focus on performance metrics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document and present technical insights clearly.
- Highly organized, proactive in driving projects to completion, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.
Preferred - Experience with geothermal systems, HVAC equipment, or other energy conversion technologies.
- Knowledge of building energy modeling software (EnergyPlus).

Key Responsibilities
Technical R&D & Prototyping
- Execute research and numerical modeling to improve designs of Darcy’s geothermal system components, including heat exchangers, well instrumentation, and related components.
- Develop structured test plans, instrumentation strategies, and data capture procedures to validate design assumptions and performance targets.
- Build and test equipment prototypes, then collect and analyzing performance data.
Modeling & Analysis
- Support performance modeling and simulation efforts (thermal, fluid, mechanical) to inform design decisions and optimize system efficiency.
- Identify modeling and analytical gaps; propose new tools or methodologies to close them.
- Work with geoscience and engineering teams to integrate technical insights into broader product development.
Field Support & System Evaluation
- Collaborate with field installation teams to observe system operation, troubleshoot technical issues, and document insights for iterative improvement.
- Support system commissioning and data collection efforts.
- Contribute to field protocols that enhance reliability, repeatability, and safety.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical leader in hydrogeologic design and well construction, while also contributing directly to field operations and system implementation
- Drive R&D initiatives to advance Darcy's groundwater-based geothermal technology. identifying opportunities for new methods, tools, and applications
- Oversee and guide well design, construction schematics, and testing protocols, ensuring technical rigor and operational excellence
- Conduct advanced geologic and hydrogeologic analyses of potential project sites to inform innovative system designs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate R&D insights into scalable, field-tested solutions
- Lead construction oversight of Darcy wells, managing subcontractors and ensuring adherence to safety, code, and design standards
- Provide thought leadership on hydrogeology best practices, integrating new technologies and approaches into operations

Requirements:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering, or related field (or relevant experience)
- 8+ years of progressive experience in hydrogeology with a focus on high-capacity well design, installation, and testing
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing geoscience teams
- Demonstrated success leading projects that integrate R&D, field operations, and innovative technical solutions.
- Strong ability to interpret, synthesize, and communicate complex geologic and hydrogeologic data (maps, logs, well records, cross-sections, modeling outputs)
- Expertise in water well design including materials selection, screen/filter-pack design, pitless unit/surface completion considerations, and installation limitations
- Experience managing field operations and construction oversight in a variety of geologic settings
- Knowledge of drilling and well construction methods, practices, and safety standards
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance leadership, R&D, and hands-on project work
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with an emphasis on technical leadership and stakeholder collaboration
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record
Preferred:
- Knowledge of well code requirements in at least one jurisdiction and ability to learn requirements in others
- Experience designing or installing well pumps, VFDs, and controls
- Experience programmatically working with modeling data for input/output generation and data analytics/visualization, such as Python, Matlab, COMSOL or MODFLOW
- Registered as a Professional Geologist in a state or states where Darcy operates (or can become registered within 6 months of hire) preferred but not required
