Job Overview

Darcy Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Regulatory Specialist to join our growing company and help shape our future. This person will help drive regulatory compliance, facilitate expansion into new regions, and ensure adherence to environmental standards. With funding from the NSF, DOE, USDA, State of Minnesota, and climate investors. Darcy is pioneering a new groundwater-based geothermal approach to sustainable heating and cooling for commercial and multi-family residential buildings. We’re working closely with industry partners to pioneer integrated ground loop-HVAC designs that help customers meet aggressive carbon emissions goals and energy efficiency requirements while lowering costs. Our approach blends elements of water well and geothermal technology, resulting in a novel way to put groundwater to work.

The Regulatory Specialist position offers candidates the chance to be part of an innovative company impacting greenhouse gas emissions in a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth and leadership. This position reports to the Regulatory Director.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth research and prepare detailed written summaries of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements associated with Darcy projects in various locations across the United States.
  • Represent Darcy and participate in regulatory agency and policy workgroup functions such as open meetings, workshops, hearings, and private discussions on issues of interest to the company. Prepare summaries of regulatory and policy activities and position papers; make oral briefings to executives, management, and employees.
  • Build working relationships with regulators and effectively communicate with regulators regarding technical project issues, regulatory requirements, and developing regulatory policy.
  • Manage and prepare regulatory exhibits, data requests, filing packages, comments, and reports for filing with regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee the collection of environmental data and evaluate data with regard to regulatory requirements. 
  • Manage tracking of regulatory activities and submissions across multiple projects by maintaining tracking systems and ongoing communication with project teams.
  • Develop and present training materials on regulatory topics for other Darcy staff in operations, construction, and technical departments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or other advanced degree in policy, business, or a technical field related to our business (geology, engineering, environmental science).
  • 2 to 8 years of experience in regulatory analysis and oversight and/or project management. An advanced degree may substitute for some years of experience. We also encourage professionals with more years of experience to apply, as we are flexible with role-fit for candidates who are especially qualified.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks related to groundwater management, water wells, and/or geothermal systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong project management skills.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects on deadline while providing excellent customer service.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, and superb time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to succeed in a startup company environment and pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

    Preferred:
  • Experience with regulatory analysis and oversight on multiple projects in the fields of groundwater management and/or planning and installation of water wells or geothermal systems.
  • Experience working with state and/or federal Underground Injection Control (UIC) regulatory programs.
  • Experience evaluating groundwater sampling data and preparing groundwater investigation activity technical reports for submission to regulatory agencies for multiple projects.

Darcy Solutions is an engineering design and cleantech startup. Our foundational technology was initially conceived by our co-founder and developed while he was a research scientist at the University of Minnesota following the completion of his PhD there. Since spinning out from the University in 2018, we have focused on refining our technology for commercial application and rapidly driving the growth of our company. We installed our first pilot system in 2019, and following the launch of our first commercial system in 2020, we are enjoying strong interest in our geothermal-HVAC system solutions. Employment Type
